This guidance captures existing best practice from Muslim communities with the aim of sharing this more widely to help support consistent high standards in the skills, knowledge, training and recruitment of public sector chaplains. It is focused on ensuring public sector chaplains have the necessary skills and support to meet the needs of those in their care.
It has been designed to ensure that best practice from Muslim chaplains and
communities contribute to:
- building understanding and improving the support available for the work of Muslim and other chaplains in public sector institutions;
- developing a comprehensive benchmark of the skills, knowledge and understanding of chaplains to help deliver consistently high standards;
- developing processes and procedures that are relevant to the current and future needs of Muslim and other communities and;
- enhancing information available for individuals who aspire to train as chaplains.
